— System Engineer
We are seeking a Systems Engineer with a strong background in backend development, event-driven architectures, and data integrations to help build and maintain our core infrastructure.
This role is not purely DevOps—it is focused on scalable integrations, data pipelines, and backend product development to support customer onboarding, system performance, and platform extensibility.
More in Q&A.
What are we doing?
Our startup is a student Housing and Property Management SaaS that provides property management software for student housing, enabling convenient mobile access for room selection, roommate matching, and more, while simplifying operations for your team.
Since this is a startup, flexibility is key—while the role is primarily backend-focused, we expect you to be comfortable jumping into occasional frontend tasks if needed. If you’re the type to complain about touching frontend code when necessary, this probably isn’t the job for you.
How do we do it?
You’ll work on enterprise integrations, ETL pipelines, and API-driven workflows, helping institutions migrate from legacy systems while ensuring seamless data interoperability. Familiarity with event-driven architectures is a must—our platform relies on asynchronous processing, webhooks, and serverless functions to ensure seamless automation and integration.
Perspectives and plans for the company/product?
We aim to expand our integrations, optimize performance, and introduce AI/ML-driven features to enhance our platform. Our goal is to remain at the forefront of data-driven automation and enterprise solutions.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in backend engineering, systems integration, or SaaS infrastructure.
- Proficiency in API development and system integrations.
- Experience working with event-driven architectures and asynchronous processing.
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms and serverless infrastructure.
- Experience with ETL workflows and data transformation.
- Comfortable working with databases and large-scale data processing.
- Understanding of security best practices for cloud-based systems.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex system and integration issues.
- Flexibility and startup mindset—occasional frontend work might be required.
Responsibilities:
- Design and maintain integration frameworks that connect our platform with enterprise systems.
- Develop and optimize ETL pipelines for seamless data migration from legacy systems.
- Architect and maintain event-driven workflows, ensuring reliability and performance.
- Enhance backend API services for high-performance, scalable integrations.
- Contribute to backend product development, including core platform features.
- Improve system security, reliability, and performance through scalable backend architecture.
- Work closely with Solutions Engineers to troubleshoot and resolve complex integration challenges.
- Collaborate with Product Engineering to build new features, primarily on the backend.
- Support ML/AI-driven features, including infrastructure optimizations.
What else is important to us about this person?
We value engineers who are flexible, solution-oriented, and eager to tackle challenges. A strong problem-solving mindset, ability to work independently, and willingness to step outside your primary focus area when necessary are key traits we seek.
Why did you open the position?
We are growing rapidly and need a skilled Systems Engineer to enhance our integrations, automation, and backend capabilities as we scale.
