What are we doing?

Santander Auto Software is an exciting new greenfield program in the early stages. We are building a brand-new, state-of-the-art software platform and product suite for the auto finance industry that will be rolled out in 13 countries across Europe and the UK.

The business is 100% tech-focused, remote first, and comprised of skilled cross-border software builders and a leadership team with accomplished backgrounds from Amazon, Microsoft, and other major global tech players.

You will be partners with, not providers to, colleagues in the product and the business. There will be no order takers and no order givers. With your partners in development and industry, you will share equally in decisions about features, dates, and priority. More importantly, you will share equally in the results produced by the software you partnered to build and evolve. That's a lot of responsibility, but we know that's the new role of technology in every part of our lives, and as software builders, we're excited to co-own the results, not just the effort.

We want to create a cloud-native, AWS-based greenfield software that solves various user, business, and technical challenges in the auto finance industry. The software we build will make a significant difference in the lives of millions of people.

How are we doing?

We operate with a "build it and own it" culture, meaning you will have a DevOps and individual contributor mindset. You will work in Agile and its engineering practices with a proper DevOps mindset. You will share equally in decisions about features, dates, and priority, and you will share equally in the results produced by the software you partnered to build and evolve.

How old is the project? What stage is it at?

The project is in its early stages, already running in Italy. We are expanding our tech and tools around our growth, currently around 50 people, but with growth plans for 350+ over the next 3 years.

What to do in a project?

You will build cloud-native, AWS-based, greenfield software, inventing solutions to various user, business, and technical challenges. As equal decision-makers, you will work with product and business partners to build and evolve software that thousands of users will use.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for skilled autonomous backend-focused software engineers with experience working with Java and Spring Boot, Kubernetes, and AWS. You have experience working in a software on-demand production environment. These are the key hires for backend building squads and help shape this area of the scale business and be a key member of a fast-growing global team!

What professional skills are essential to us?

• Software development in Java (Spring Boot) - design, build, and deploy;
• Production deployment experience working with AWS;
• Experience with automated build and test systems for CI/CD (using Docker, Jenkins, etc.);
• Experienced in true Agile and its engineering practices with a proper DevOps mindset.

What is the core stack?

• Tech: Java18&Spring boot, Kotlin&Ktor, Typescript&React, Kubernetes, Kafka, AWS Aurora, Dynamo, etc.
• Tools: Datadog, GitHub / GitHub actions, LaunchDarkly.

The conditions:

• Is there a trial period, and how long does it last? 3 months.
• What is the work schedule? Flexible. Keeping in touch throughout the working day and participating in meetings is essential. Working Timezones: (UTC) London +/- 2 hours, (UTC +1:00), Barcelona +/- 2 hours
• Is there any visa sponsorship? Visa sponsorship isn't available.
• Is it possible to work remotely? It’s a 100% remote greenfield development (this will only change if you want to split time on-site).

• Is there a test task? No.
• Interview in English? Yes.

How many stages of the interview?

1. Introduction call with a recruiter (~30 mins).
2. Teams interview with a Senior Engineer - online coding/tech challenge, general overview of the program, projects, role, etc. (60 mins).
3. Teams call - deep dive into the tech-wise experience focusing on the backend and including a code review test. General behavioral questions and an open Q&A.(90 mins).
