 Senior Java Engineer

Hello everyone!

We’re looking for a Senior Java Engineer to help create innovative solutions for companies selling to Gov & Education institutions. You’ll work on building Java applications from scratch to support public procurement processes, collaborating with teams to develop scalable, efficient systems. The company is well-funded and led by a CEO with a successful exit history.

What are we doing?

Our mission is to build the bridge connecting businesses with government & educational buyers. We all see in our day-to-day lives how state and local governments spend money inefficiently. Critical areas like education, homelessness, and infrastructure hinge on the effectiveness of both state and local governments.

We believe the root cause of bad spending is that it is incredibly challenging for private businesses, especially those without extensive government contracting experience, to partner with state & local governments on solving societal challenges.

Also, we are partnering with individuals who have disabilities and their families to achieve success in education, employment, and healthy living. Together we transform communities to include everyone!

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years as a Back-End Engineer.

  • Proficiency in Java and Kotlin.

  • Core requirements include strong generalist skills with JVM (Java Virtual Machine).

  • Familiarity with GCP (Google Cloud Platform) is preferred, but AWS experience is acceptable.

  • Experience with PostgreSQL or similar databases.

  • Advanced English proficiency

  • Ability to understand product requirements and ask relevant questions.

  • Experience in building products rather than just refactoring or migrating legacy code.

  • Experience with web scraping, natural language generation, API integrations, and prompt engineering is a plus.

Main task:
To build new products from scratch with no refactoring or migrations.

Technology Stack:

Generative AI, JVM, Kotlin, GCP, PostgreSQL

What else is important to us about this person?
The ideal candidate should have experience in product companies, preferably successful US startups. They should have built useful products and have strong problem-solving skills. The company is not interested in candidates who primarily focus on legacy migrations or code refactoring.

Team size and structure
The current team consists of five engineers, mostly Ukrainian, working remotely from various locations (Poland, UA, US).

Where are the people who make technical decisions on the project?

New York, UK

How many stages of the interview, and with whom?

The process includes a first call with a recruiter, two technical interviews and one non-technical interview, totaling 3,5 hours.

Interviews can be conducted in one day or spread out. The first technical interview focuses on system design, and the second involves live coding and a coding challenge. References are important and will be checked.

Additional details:
